Target Tours India Pvt Ltd.Humanyun’s Tomb of Delhi was built in 1570 by queen Hamida Banu Begum, the widow of Mughal Emperor Humanyun and is located at Nizamuddin. The tomb is 140 feet high structure with a central dome. Hamanyun’s tomb is made of red sandstone with white marble ornamentation and the exterior of double –layered dome is made of white marble. The architect of the mausoleum is similar to that of Taj Mahal and the first of its kind of Mughal architect in India. The tomb took almost 9 years to complete and has a Charbagh garden style in its design. The complex is a World Heritage Site and represents the Mughal architect at its best. The mausoleum is a synthesis of Persian architect.

There are other tombs in Humayun’s tomb complex and the tomb itself is in the centre of a large garden, with pools joined by channels and gardens inserted by watercourses. There are two entrances for the tomb, the main entrance is on the south side, and another one is on the west side. A pavilion and a bath is located in the centre of the eastern and western walls respectively. The mausoleum itself is on the high, wide terraced platform with small arched cells along the sides. It is an irregular octagon with four long and four short sides.

Humanyun’s Tomb is the first of its kind and has a special place in the history and development of Mughal architecture and art. Externally each side of the tomb, its elevations decorated by marble borders and panels, is dominated by three arched alcoves, the central one being the highest. Over the roof pillared kiosks are disposed around the high emphatic double dome in the centre. The central octagonal chamber contains the cenotaph, encompassed by octagonal chambers at the diagonals and arched lobbies on the sides.
