Kaziranga National Park While ever visiting to the north-eastern Indian regions, you must go to the most striking and eye-catching place, i.e. the Kaziranga National Park in Assam. Already an UNESCO World Heritage Site and with around 500 sq kms of flourishing green flood plains, the park boasts of some of the most captivating wildlife not only in India, but in Asia as well. Lofty, thick grasslands mixed together with cane brakes, open woodlands, linking streams and plentiful lakes mark the Kaziranga National Park. Divided into four ranges, the Agoratoli range makes up the eastern part with woodland superbly blended with grassland and water-bodies. The Kohora range covers the central part, the Baguri range covers the western part of the Park and Burhapahar forms the fourth range. About one third (1/3) of Kaziranga are dominated and covered by the wet savanna grassland covers, comprising tall elephant-grass. Kaziranga exhibits a rare sight of vastness, as everything here is fairly large. Tall elephant-grass, Bengal Floricans, Pallas's Fish Eagle, horned Rhinoceros and Asian Elephants are just few of the examples of the prevailing largeness in the park. For its 500 species of birds, the park is a bird’s paradise. Swamp Francolin, Bengal Florican, Wreathed Hornbill, Pallas’s Fishing Eagle, Oriental Hobby, Black-necked Stork, Marsh Babbler and lots more are easily seen in birds’ category. Kaziranga is a home of “Big Five", and elephant, rhinoceros, wild buffalo, tiger and Swamp Deer make up the big five. More that 50 mammalian species with few rare ones like Hoolock Gibbon, Hog-Badger, Gangetic Dolphin, Chinese Pangolin and Parti-coloured Flying Squirrel make the park even more diverse.
