Lumbini
 Lumbini lies in the foothills of the Himalayas in Nepal. One of the most important place of Buddhist pilgrimage is Lumbini, located near the Nepal-India border. The founder of Buddhism, Gautama Buddha was born at this place. According to tradition, Gautama Buddha left a life of luxury at age 30. Although largely destroyed now, these remain important marks of the Buddha's birthplace.
Lumbini is the sacred site of the birth of Shakyamuni Buddha. At Lumbini, pilgrims from various countries perform chanting and meditation. The site has ruins of ancient monasteries, a sacred Bodhi tree, an ancient bathing pond, the Asokan Pilar and the Mayadevi temple.
