Vaishali Vaishali features among the Buddha's desired resort, and got its name after King Vishal, a ruler during the times of Ramayana. A bulky, though a ruined fort could well be seen there, built by King Vishal. The Lichchavis dominated the city and ruled majestically till 6th century BC. Vaishali is around half an hour drive from Hazipur and around one hour away from Patna district in Bihar. It attracts travellers for being the birthplace of Lord Vardhman Mahavira, last Tirthankar of Jainism. The place is uniformly blessed for the Buddhists, as Buddha gave his last preaching in this city and made out his Mahaprayan. In mark of respect to Buddha, king Ashoka put up a pillar (Famous lion pillar) here. Exactly 100 years after the death of Lord Buddha, the place was used for the second great Buddhist council, and two stupas were made to remind the people about this famous event. In the present day, Vaishali is a fairly small town and surrounded by lots of intense mango and banana groves. Major Tourist Attractions in VaishaliAshokan Pillar is a Lion Pillar at Kolhua, and this famous site was built by Emperor Ashoka. Bawan Pokhar Temple a Hindu temple and positioned on the banks of the lake Bawan Pokhar. The Buddha Stupas remind one of the great second Buddhist council and attracts the Buddhist religion people from across the globe. Coronation Tank is an excavated site and marks an ancient parliament house of the Lichchavi government.
