Sarnath
 Sarnath, Lumbini, Gaya and Kushinagar are the four most popular Buddhist sites, and together they form the Buddhist Quadrilateral of the Indian Sub-Continent. These places beautifully relate themselves to the various aspects of life of Buddha. Sarnath is near Varanasi in the state of Uttar Pradesh and famous place for Lord Buddha. Sarnath is the place where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon after getting enlightenment in Bodh Gaya. A beautiful Stupa is still there confirming the delivery of the sermon; the Dhamek Stupa is the name of that structure. Sarnath is a must visit for all believers of Buddhist religion.
Attractions at Sarnath
The Dhamekha Stupa features among the prime locations at Sarnath and constructed by Ashoka. With 31.3 m height and 28.3 m in diameter, the stupa contains beautifully carved stones. This also marks the spot where the voice of Buddhism was first heard. Millions of dignitaries of Buddhist almost every year come here and take a circumambulation of this sacred stupa to adore Buddha.
The Choukhandi' Stupa is a place that marks the meting of Buddha with his five disciples, and it was raised by Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1555 A.D.
The Digambara Jain Temple, built in 1824, marks the birth place of Shreyanshnath, the 11th Jain Tirthankara.
Some Buddhist Temples at Sarnath attract a vast number of travellers from across the globe. The Mulagandhakuti Vihara is a modern temple and having the original relics of the Buddha.
