Bhubaneshwar Bhubaneshwar is the capital city of the eastern Indian state of Orissa and better known as a temple town and cathedral city. The city is a true representative of Orissan architecture and exhibits the architectural grandeur of the state at its peak. The museums in the city clearly depicts the glorious past it has gone through, and travellers make out the magnificence of the city with a wide set of sculpture, coins, copper plates, stone inscriptions, armours, Bronze Age tools, natural history etc. The sculptural significance along with the art of the 2nd century BC could be best seen with the Twin hills Jain caves. These caves also tender an exciting prospect to study Jain ascetics. The Khandagiri and Udayagiri hills are a delight with their 19 and 44 caves respectively, and display the power of the Orissa art. The Parashurameshwara temple, built in the year 650 A.D. superbly shows the Orissa style of temple architecture with lots of delicate carvings and sculptures onto its walls and pillars. The Raja Rani temple, a 'love temple' is cherished for its conventional Orrisan temple designing, and fascinates visitors for its erotic carvings. This exciting place takes you away from the real temple scenes of India, as Nandan Kanan is rated as the biggest lion safari park of India with a few rare white tigers.
